Youth in Philanthropy, an initiative of The Winnipeg Foundation, is a program designed to introduce local high school students to philanthropy and community development. In September SMA students form a Youth in Philanthrophy Committee (YIP). The committee is allocated $5,000 to distribute to charities of its choice. Students first discuss their values and the goals of the committee. They then research potential charities - conducting interviews and going on site visits in the community. The YAC then decides how to allocate the group's grants and presents written recommendations to the Board of The Winnipeg Foundation for final approval. In May the YAC presents the grants to the selected charities.
