St. Mary’s Academy Hockey Development Program provides a professional program of hockey development, following the format of the Northwestern Hockey Academy, designed to complement a player’s regular season. The purpose is to offer on-going skill development that will, in turn, create the opportunity to build on individual skills in addition to team development that will be attained through regular season play. The program is open to SMA students in grades 7 to 12 who are enrolled in minor hockey.
Program for 2011 - 2012
Sessions: Ten 1 hour sessions at the MTS Iceplex
Programming Focus:
• Over-Speed Skill Training
• Anaerobic Tolerance
• Assertive 1—On—1 Puck Skills
• European Flow Drills
• Individual Tactics
• Attack-Support-Recover Principles
Busing: One-way bus transportation is included in program fees. For morning sessions participants are bussed to SMA after the session. For after school sessions students are bussed to the Iceplex.
Cost: $325 payable to St. Mary’s Academy - includes ice, coaching, insurance, jersey and bus.
Registration: The program has a limited enrollment and participants will be admitted on a first come basis. Information and registration forms are available in the school office.

Instructor
Head on-ice instructor is Larry Bumstead, Director of Northwestern Hockey Sports Camp. Larry Bumstead has nearly 25 years of hockey development and coaching experience for dedicated male and female players of all levels: entry level to elite, recreational to competitive. The Northwestern Hockey Sports Camp programming has been designed to meet the needs of all developing, competitive or aspiring players to enable players to accelerate through the program as their hockey development needs change. As a direct result of Larry’s mentorship and programming, he has proudly watched many of his players go on to realize their personal hockey goals at the highest levels. Larry is pleased to join the True North Sports & Entertainment Group as their Director of Hockey Development at the MTS Iceplex.
