Creating a Positive Environment for Academics and Hockey to Thrive
St. Mary’s Academy’s multi-option hockey program provides opportunities within a school setting for our hockey athletes to participate in skills-based training, to receive experienced coaching, and to represent their school on one of two competitive teams. The following user-pay options are available to SMA students in grades 7 through 12:
Hockey Skills Academy
The Academy is open to students in grades 7 to 12. Participants receive on-ice skills-based training, preparing them for opportunities to play on a team. Students also learn hockey strategy and skills analysis. The program is directed by Larry Bumstead, of Northwestern Hockey Sports Camp. Students attending the Hockey Skills Academy have the option of playing for their local minor hockey team and/or trying out for the SMA Flames High School Hockey team. More info . . .
Hockey Canada Sports Team
Students in grades 10 to 12 who wish to play hockey at a high level may try-out for the Flames Prep Team, a sanctioned Hockey Canada Sports Team that is also recognized by Hockey Manitoba. Participants receive on- and off-ice skills based training. The team competes against minor hockey AAA teams in Manitoba and participates in prospect tournaments in neighbouring Provinces and States. Head Coach is Larry Bumstead. More info . . .
Flames High School Hockey
Students in grades 9 to 12 may try-out for the school team that competes in Division A of the Winnipeg Women’s High School Hockey League (WWHSHL). Head Coach is Brad Porath. More info . . .
