The Athletic Council (Executive and Classroom Sport Reps) help the athletic department staff with the intramural program. The elected classroom sports reps assist the Athletic Council Executive in a variety of ways: school spirit, school dances, posters, scorekeeping, tournaments, intramural sign up, intramural participation and fan support.
The Intramural Program is run by the Athletic Council and is supervised by the Phys Ed staff. The activities are decided yearly by the Athletic Council Executive. Intramurals take place at 12:45 on days not conflicting with other major lunchtime activities. There is Open Gym at 12:45 when no intramurals or afternoon practices are taking place.

Fitness Room
In October 2010 SMA's new fitness room opened.The facility, outfitted with commercial grade strength and conditioning equipment, has enough stations to accomodate an entire class. It is becoming a popular alternative to the gym for physical education classes. Students in grades 10-12 and staff are encouraged to workout before school, during spares and at lunch. Before using the room, students must sign and submit to their phys. ed. teacher a copy of the Fitness Room Guidelines.
